Manchester City fear that Real Madrid could beat them in the race to sign Valencia star David Silva.
City executives are hoping to hold talks with Valencia after postponing their plans to meet with the club chairman last week.
But senior figures at City have been made aware that Silva's destination of choice, should he leave Valencia, is Real Madrid.
While City remain keen to speak to the player's representatives, it is likely that the club will now focus their efforts on securing a post-World Cup deal for Aston Villa midfielder James Milner before reviewing their prospects of signing Silva.
